Scenic Route's Generations is a premium puzzle game created by Scenic Route Software. Originally played on the handheld console Playdate, it has since been made available on other devices. The game involves matching three or more family portraits of the same generation and turning them into a portrait of older family members.

Popular tile games like Bejeweled Blitz or Pet Rescue Saga employ mechanics that require you to destroy tiles or blocks to clear a level. In the case of Scenic Route's Generations, matching portraits means combining them to form a new one—rendering it a little more dynamic.

Same gameplay but with colorful graphics

The charms of Scenic Route's Generations did not fade a bit even as it became available to play on many devices other than Playdate. The expansion meant that more people will have the chance to experience the fun and excitement that have attracted Playdate users to the game. Although it has been optimized with modifications to the controls and the graphics, its gameplay remains unchanged.

The gameplay consists of matching family portraits of every generation from storks to grandparents on a wall. What makes it distinct is that instead of blasting the portraits you have to combine three or more of them to produce a new one—meaning a generation ages up from storks to babies and so on. The new tile then can be used to form another set to evolve.

However, this can get tricky because you need to consider carefully where the new portrait falls. The game ends once the entire wall space is used up. Other than the vibrant colors and the modified controls, customizable options such as accessibility mode and the cat called Poe are still in place. One cannot help but notice that the game lacks background music, which can make a considerable difference.
